RHODIE’S RESCUE
FROM HOPELESS TO A HOME, ONE DOG AT A TIME
RHODIE’S RESCUE is a very small, but mighty all-volunteer run organization, saving the most in-need dogs from our local high kill shelters and neglectful or abandonment situations in our community. Our mission is to help as many souls as possible out of awful situations and get them into loving, forever homes.
In these unprecedented times, when shelters are overflowing and dogs are being abandoned or left behind at alarming rates, you will see RHODIE’S volunteers out in the streets, farm fields, orchards and our local shelters working to get dogs to safety. With the use of our field equipment (traps, nets, drones, trail cameras) and our expertise, we are often called upon to capture the difficult dogs who have been out loose and have evaded capture for weeks, months and even years. We also work with the dogs who have been scheduled for euthanasia at our local shelter to help them overcome behaviors such as fear, timidness, aggression or anxieties which prevent them from being available to the public to adopt. These dogs are mostly only available for rescues to take in, so we video our work with the individual dogs in order for them to be marketed to other local and out of state rescues which increases their chances to leave the shelter and evade euthanasia. Many of the dogs we work with also end up becoming available for general adoption at the shelter as well when we have shown the dog has worked through any issues and is safe for the public to adopt.
Once in our possession, all dogs receive the best medical care- from basic needs to extreme care such as orthopedic surgeries, heart surgeries, treatments for neurological conditions, cancer dental disease, skin disease and anything in between.
RHODIE’S RESCUE dogs live in experienced foster homes. While in these homes they are vetted, rehabilitated and trained before adoption into families who have been thoroughly screened and perfectly matched for the dog’s needs and personality, as well as the family’s lifestyle and home. RHODIE’S RESCUE is committed to each dog that comes into our organization for life. If for some reason an adoptive family can no longer keep the dog, RHODIE’S requires the adopters to return the dog to the rescue to ensure the dog’s well being and safety for life.
RHODIE’S RESCUE also maintains a sanctuary at their ranch in the rural farming community of Knightsen in Contra Costa County. There, dogs who have not been adopted due to medical or behavioral issues, live out their lives to the fullest. The dogs are provided impeccable care, all medical needs are met and lots of love and nurturing is given like any of our furry family members. Currently we house several dogs with an array of medical conditions: A Great Dane with Wobblers syndrome who is in a wheelchair. A Chihuahua with Megaesophagus who requires 3 meals a day sitting upright in a special chair. A Pitbull who has been treated and survived four different cancers. An American Bulldog who has short bowel syndrome. A Boxer who has head tremors and seizures…just to name a few!
RHODIE’S RESCUE relies solely on public donations and fundraising events. We receive no funding or grants from government agencies, businesses or companies. One hundred percent of all donations go towards the care of our dogs including but not limited to medical needs, grooming services, training, food and supplies. We do not have any paid employees, and our founder/director graciously provides her ranch at no charge for the sanctuary and boarding needs of the rescue.
RHODIE’S RESCUE has been recognized by Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis and California State Senator Steven Glazer as the Non Profit of the Year 2022 by the Discovery Bay Chamber of Commerce. RHODIE’S RESCUE was also nominated for Non Profit of the Year 2023 by the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce.
